For women who suffer from Rosacea, perimenopause may trigger symptoms, as hormonal changes take place. Whilst rosacea presents as a skin condition with its characteristic inflamed facial redness, visible blood vessels, and sometimes even pimples, the natural biological process of menopause can potentially exacerbate rosacea symptoms for several reasons. Today we explore why your symptoms may increase during this cycle of your life, and how you may find some relief.
- Hormonal Fluctuations
- Estrogen Fluctuation: With fluctuating estrogen levels during perimenopause and menopause, you may notice that your skin becomes more sensitive or prone to irritation. Estrogen offers a natural anti-inflammatory effect, the reduction of estrogen can lead to an increase in skin sensitivity, which may worsen your rosacea symptoms.
- Hot Flashes: One of the hallmark symptoms of perimenopause is hot flashes. This may significantly increase skin redness and flushing—both of which are common in rosacea. The sudden rush of heat to the face can trigger or exacerbate rosacea flare-ups. Using a fan or cool compress during a hot flash may help manage symptoms. Or you may like to try the cooling effects of Paudha Healing Tone and Hydrate botanical mist. Made from a soothing and hydrating botanical blend of infused waters, Chamomile, Rose and Lavender, which calm and hydrate the skin. This handy little spray can be kept in your handbag and is gentle enough to spray over makeup.
‘I don’t normally go for face mists but this product is underrated. Each spray is cooling and inhaling the essences is the most refreshing thing, and the spray has this incredible vanilla/caramel after-scent.’ ~ Hexy Chick, Verified Customer

- Increased Skin Sensitivity
- As you age and go through perimenopause, the skin generally becomes thinner and more sensitive. As the skin is more prone to irritation from environmental factors, skincare products, and other triggers, this may make increase rosacea symptoms. Try using gentle, non-stripping cleansers that work with the skin’s natural oils, such as the Paudha Healing clean and balance cleansing oil. Formulated using a unique blend of certified organic oils – including Camellia, Jojoba and Avocado – this Facial Cleansing Oil is a refreshing cleanser and make-up remover for your skin. Unlike most cleansers, which strip the skin and leave it feeling dry, the ingredients in this soap-free product moisturise your skin whilst simultaneously help to balance oil production.
‘This cleansing oil is perfect for my sensitive skin. Most cleansers leave my face dry, red and irritated BUT not this one!! It feels so nourishing and leaves my face feeling soft and hydrated. It works very well with removing all makeup including mascara. So far it is my favourite Paudha product. Thank you, I will continue to buy it.’ ~ Sarah, Verified Customer
‘For me, 2020 brings on the naughty 40’s (eeek!!). Since I started high school I have always have a daily facial regime but I need more help and Paudha Healing is the answer I didn’t realise I was looking for. I have only been a customer for a few months and the cleaning oil was my first purchase, but I honestly feel like it has made such a difference. I’m never going to get younger, but I honestly think that Paudha Healing will help me feel so much young. You are to stay in my life forever 😉’ ~ Alicia, Verified Customer
‘This is the most amazing skin product I have used in 50 years. I feel it has helped my skin redness where no other product has before and only after a week of use. It is so relaxing to apply and clean off is easy. Love, love, love and definitely would recommend.’ ~ Carol, Verified Customer
- Stress and Lifestyle Changes
- Stress is a well-known trigger for rosacea flare-ups. The emotional and physical stresses of perimenopause, including mood swings and changes in sleep patterns, can also exacerbate your rosacea symptoms.
- Lifestyle factors such as diet, alcohol consumption, or exposure to heat (common during perimenopause) can also contribute to rosacea flare-ups during this time.
- We have written a whole article sharing different tools our Founder, Renee Tilley uses to manage her own lifestyle and stress related rosacea flareups. 4 Natural ways to soothe Rosacea.
- Treatment Challenges
- Hormonal Therapy: If you have been prescribed Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to alleviate peri-menopausal symptoms, you may find it exacerbates your rosacea symptoms. Keep in mind however, the effect of HRT can have varying effects on symptoms with some women reporting an improvement in their skin symptoms, whilst others may find it aggravates their rosacea.
- Medications for Rosacea: Many treatments for rosacea, including topical medications like metronidazole or oral antibiotics remain effective during perimenopause, however some women may find that they need to adjust their skincare routine as their skin becomes more sensitive. Using natural, nourishing, non-stripping formulas during this time is important. The Calendula and chickweed cream was formulated specifically to soothe the founder of Paudha Healing, Renee’s inflamed Rosacea prone skin. Whilst studying a Bachelor of Health Science (Naturopathy), Renee learned that Calendula, St Johns Wort, Chamomile and Chickweed are all perfect for soothing dry, inflamed, red or itchy skin, and so created this soothing cream to soothe her red, inflamed skin.
‘I contacted Renee at Paudha Healing regarding my daughter’s rosacea acne and she suggested the chickweed and calendula cream with some cleansing oil. Within 2 days her skin was cleared up beautifully. I’ve been using her products for a few months now and am very happy with it.’ ~ Angela, Verified Customer
‘I’m on my third jar of the Paudha Calendula and Chickweed cream. I started using it because I had a serious outbreak of rosacea in 2019. I now use it every morning and every evening. My night time routine is not complete without a clean face soothed with this lovely cream. I also really like the very mild scent. The rosacea is very much reduced.’ ~ Belinda, Verified Customer
‘I have tried many night creams but keep going back to this one and am sticking with it now. It is the only one I feel safe with that consistently calms my dry skin from acne, rosacea and eczema. I absolutely love it and I’m so grateful thank you.’ ~ Lee, Verified Customer
‘My skin loves this cream. It is perfect for my mature dry sensitive skin together with the amazing Nourish & Repair Face Oil. My daughter is also a regular user of your wonderful products.’ ~ Ricki, Verified Customer
- Skin Ageing
- Collagen and Elastin is reduced: During perimenopause and beyond, there is a natural decrease in collagen and elastin production, which can lead to drier, thinner skin, that then may become more prone to irritation. As a result, moving into perimenopause may further increase your skin’s vulnerability to redness and other rosacea symptoms.
- Hydration is key: Keeping your skin hydrated is essential. Look for gentle, fragrance-free moisturisers, such as the calendula and chickweed cream to soothe and protect your skin. For extra hydration, follow with the Nourish and Repair oil, rich in Jojoba oil which is the closest oil to the skin’s natural sebum, Rosehip oil rich in vitamins A and E to help support signs of premature ageing and the anti-inflammatory properties of Calendula that calm the skin and reduce redness. The oil will lock in the goodness of the calendula cream, sealing a layer of hydration against the skin’s surface.
‘I have just purchased the Nourish and repair face oil in a 50ml bottle. This product is the best face oil I have used. I’m 48 this year and I have noticed a big change in my skin in the last couple of years. This product has been my NO:1 go to face product. I have Rosacea on my cheeks and this definitely has helped with reducing the redness. I am loving the large bottle too. I have to say I would prefer the dropper top over the pump that is on the 50ml bottle. But I have just transferred it into a dropper bottle myself as it just helps to control the amount that comes out better. Thanks so much for your beautiful products.’ ~ Kelly, Verified Customer
‘This oil feels like velvet and sinks deep into my skin. I’ve only been using for a few weeks, but I can notice a difference in my skin tone, and its helping calm rosacea.’ ~ Mary, Verified Customer
‘I’m 69 and i use this skin care oil day and night. Just 3 drops does my face, eyes and neck. It’s absolutely beautiful. I look healthier, my skin glows and my skin tone has evened out. I’ll be reordering. It’s fabulous.’ ~Elyna, Verified Customer

Other factors to keep in mind
- Sun Protection: Sun exposure is a common rosacea trigger. With the thinning layer of the skin, perimenopausal and menopausal skin may be more sensitive to UV damage. Choose to wear a 50+ sunscreen formulated for sensitive skin daily, even on cloudy days.
- Consult a Dermatologist: If symptoms worsen or become more difficult to manage, a dermatologist can help guide you through appropriate treatments, whether topical, oral medications, or lifestyle changes.
If you’re experiencing both rosacea and menopause symptoms, we always recommend taking a holistic approach to your skincare and lifestyle for best results. What works for one person may not work for another, so it may take some trial and error to find what works best for you and your ski
